A woman was left gobsmacked after robbers chopped down and nicked a Christmas tree from her back garden in the dead of night.

Sarah Yardley, 40, got a weird text from pals leaving her Christmas bash on Friday night (December 15) after they'd spotted someone hopping over her fence with half a tree.

The Christmas tree was in Sarah's back garden, next to her house, which is surrounded by a five-foot-tall stone wall with a gate in the middle. Sarah, from Wadebridge, Cornwall, said: "What a funny set of experiences.

"My friends were leaving the party, and saw someone jumping over the back stone wall of my garden – hailing away one of my Christmas looking trees. Someone sawed down the top half of one of the fir trees.

"They texted me but I didn't see the message for over an hour afterwards."At that point it was 11pm – I had a large group of guests over and thought 'Oh gosh, as much as I'm quite confused', it was so late.

"My friends didn't chase them down; fair enough as they left a dark house with a two year old and baby in tow, but it left me wondering: why? I investigated the next morning and was like, 'Ohh they came into my garden, chopped down one of my trees and hailed it away! What an endeavor."

Sarah hasn't alerted the police about the incident yet, as she doesn't know who nicked the tree and there's no CCTV to help identify them. She said :"The only motive that I could think of is someone couldn't afford a Christmas tree – that must be the reason?" she said pondering on why they might've done it.

"If they had only asked, I would have been glad to share.".

Despite this pesky situation, Sarah is chuffed with the support of her mates and the community. Raised in Orange County, California, Sarah always tries to see the best in things.
