Farage calls payout to Dame Alison Rose as a ‘sick joke’
Nigel Farage has reacted with outrage after it was confirmed Dame Alison Rose is departing Natwest bank with a golden handshake of £2.4 million.
Dame Alison was forced to quit after a month of scandal around Mr Farage being debanked as a customer of Coutts over his political views.
She is currently working out her 12-month notice period at the group.
NatWest is keeping her planned pay under review as investigations into the scandal continue.
Reacting to the breaking news, Mr Farage said: “When I heard the news I thought perhaps it was a sick joke”.
“Surely you cannot breach client confidentiality, you cannot break virtually every important rule in the FCA codebook and you can’t then lie about it after you’ve briefed the BBC, and still receive a £2.43 million payout.”

“And yet that’s exactly what’s happened to Alison Rose!
“The so-called inquiry into what she did has been kicked into the long grass, and Sir Howard Davis – chairman of the Natwest Gourp – seems happy about that.
“This is the corrupt British establishment looking after its own. It’s the corrupt British establishment at its very very worse.
He concluded: “The whole thing is a sick joke”.

It had previously been speculated that Dame Alison could be in line for an even larger £5 million payout, with a former FTSE 100 chairman telling the Express: “If she resigns, she will be paid her notice period which would be at least 12 months and probably worth £5million”.
The bank refused to comment on the allegations when contacted by the Express, though Times sources suggested NatWest “would look to limit her remuneration”.
Mr Farage said: “She should not be getting a payoff at all. She has breached the most basic rule of banking and brought the NatWest group into disrepute. It’s a reward for failure.”
Dame Alison was also sacked from two major Government advisory roles after Rishi Sunak and Jeremy Hunt made clear they couldn’t support her amid the row.
Dame Alison Rose had been appointed to an Energy Efficiency Taskforce within the Net Zero department in February and as a member of the PM’s Business Council in July.
At the time a Downing Street source said Rishi Sunak had been “concerned about the unfolding situation”, and confirmed the Prime Minister believes Dame Alison did “the right thing in resigning”.
Mr Farage also secured the resignation of Coutts CEO Peter Flavel, who was similarly forced out for his role in the debunking row.
It is not yet known what Mr Flavel’s pay out will be.
